VoIP billing correction for Simply Bits

What happened

Due to a tax calculation issue, the Federal Universal Service Fund (USF) fee was applied incorrectly to intrastate-only VoIP charges. This caused higher than expected charges on some invoices, significantly inflating the Universal Service Fund.

If your account was impacted, you’ll receive an email from us. If you didn’t get a notification, no need to worry.

What we’ve done to fix it

We’ve corrected the issue and taken steps to correct your billing:

  • We'll be voiding all incorrect invoices.
  • If you already paid, you'll be getting an account credit.
  • If you have not yet paid, you will have 30 days from the issue date to complete payment.
  • Corrected invoices will be issued showing proper Universal service fees applied.

What changed with USF?

We updated how the USF fee is calculated to ensure it only applies where required.

Not all services are subject to USF charges, only specific VoIP or telecom services are included.
