Ting Internet at Laguna Woods Village: Your Questions, Answered

Big changes are coming to internet and TV in Laguna Woods Village–and they’re all for the better

The current system is aging fast, with outdated equipment and rising costs that make it harder to maintain. That’s why the GRF Board approved a new partnership with Ting Internet to bring modern fiber internet and DirecTV Stream to every manor. It’s faster, simpler, and built for how we live today.

What’s changing–and why it’s good news

Why is this happening?

The current internet and TV setup is outdated. Parts are failing, replacements are hard to find, and support is disappearing. On top of that, cable TV costs are rising fast.

That’s why Laguna Woods Village is upgrading to Ting fiber internet and DirecTV Stream–modern, reliable, and built for today’s needs.

Who gave this the green light?

The GRF Board of Directors and corporate members approved the partnership and contract with Ting Internet.

Who is Ting?

Ting Internet is a U.S.-based internet company that brings super-fast, reliable fiber internet to homes and businesses. Ting is part of Tucows Inc. and is known for friendly service, no contracts, and fast, symmetrical speeds.

Why Ting for Laguna Woods Village?
  • Speed that keeps up: Up to 2,000 Mbps (2 gigabits per second) download and upload.
  • Less clutter: Stream right on your smart TV–no need for bulky cable boxes.
  • No slowdowns: Enough bandwidth for everyone at home to stream, chat, and browse at the same time.
How is this being paid for?

The project is funded through GRF’s reserves. It’s been budgeted and planned for years.

Cost & Equipment

What’s it going to cost me?

You’ll start seeing the new service included in your HOA fee starting in 2027:

  • $40: Ting fiber internet (up to 2,000 Mbps both ways)
  • $25: DirecTV Stream (includes locals, DVR/cloud storage, MAX+, and Paramount+ with Showtime)

That’s $65/month total—bundled into your HOA fee. No separate bills.

Any equipment fees?

Nope. All equipment–modem, router (eero), and stream box–is included at no extra charge.

Do I own the eero router (the white box)?

No. The equipment stays in the manor and belongs to Ting. Think of it like a library book you use while you live there.

Internet & Streaming Support

How fast is this internet?

Up to 2,000 Mbps download and upload. That’s enough to handle video calls, streaming, and browsing–on lots of devices at once.

Help! My router has a red light

The white box (your eero router) shows a red light when it’s lost its internet connection. Try this:

  1. Unplug both the white box and black box for 30 seconds.
  2. Plug them back in.
  3. Check that the cables are properly attatched and secure.
  4. Still no luck? Contact Ting support.

Getting Connected

How do I connect my phone, tablet, or smart TV?
  1. Go to your device’s Wi-Fi settings.
  2. Choose your new eero network name (you set this up when installing).
  3. Enter your Wi-Fi password.

Helpful tips:

  • If you reused your old network name and password, many devices will reconnect automatically.
  • If something doesn’t connect right away, try turning Wi-Fi off and on or restart the device.
  • If you are not sure of your eero network name and password– you can set up your eero.
