Getting Set Up: Installation and Activation FAQ
From pre-wiring to Wi-Fi coverage, here’s what to expect when Ting Internet and DirecTV Stream are installed in your manor. Our crews will handle the outside prep, set up the equipment inside, and make sure your Wi-Fi and TV are ready to go–so you can start enjoying faster internet and simpler streaming right away.
Installation & Equipment
What’s all the work outside?
Ting is pre-wiring your building for fiber internet.
- This step installs fiber cables on the outside of your building–no one will enter your home.
- Please leave gates unlocked and allow access to exterior areas.
- When finished, wires will be covered and secured with molding.
Will anyone come inside my home?
Yes. During installation, technicians will bring fiber into your manor and set up the necessary equipment:
- Fiber modem (ONT) (the Black box).
- eero 7 Wi-Fi router (the white box).
- Two DirecTV Gemini Stream Boxes (coming Fall 2026).
Will the Wi-Fi cover my whole manor?
In nearly all cases, yes. One eero 7 covers about 2,000 square feet. For manors over 1,500 sq ft, a second eero will be installed automatically to ensure strong, consistent Wi-Fi.
How many devices can I connect?
Each eero can handle over 120 connected devices at once.
Will they need to drill or cut into my walls?
It depends on your setup. Ting will do everything possible to follow your existing coaxial cable path.
Fiber is extremely thin–about the width of a human hair–so major wall work usually isn’t needed.
What will technicians set up for me?
Ting will:
- Install all equipment.
- Connect Wi-Fi to two of your devices (for example: two TVs, or a TV and a computer).
- Provide instructions to help you connect other devices later on.
What if I need a wired connection in another room?
Custom fiber installs inside your home aren’t allowed. However, you may run a Category cable (like Cat5e or Cat6A) from the eero router to another room if needed.
The ONT (modem/ black box) must stay in its original spot. No one but Ting can modify or touch the exterior fiber–it’s owned and maintained by GRF.
Will my phone (landline) still work?
Yes. Your landline will not be affected by Ting’s fiber installation.
What about my current West Coast Internet (WCI) service?
Your WCI service will continue to work alongside Ting until the full transition is complete.
Don’t cancel WCI until your HOA tells you it’s time–this will likely happen toward the end of 2026.
Service Activation
When will Ting service be active in my manor?
Once construction is finished in your area, you’ll get a call and email with your installation date. Your Ting internet will be live immediately after the install.
Will everyone switch over at the same time?
Nope. As zones are completed, Ting service will go live in phases. You’ll be able to use Ting and WCI at the same time during the transition.
The full switch to Ting internet and DirecTV is expected by December 2026.
Do I need a Smart TV?
A Smart TV is the easiest way to enjoy DirecTV Stream–but it’s not required.
Any TV with an HDMI port will work using the included Gemini Stream Box.
