How fast is Ting Internet?
Your internet speed depends on how you connect
With Ting Gigabit internet, a wired connection gives you the very best performance, while Wi-Fi speeds can vary depending your devices (smart phones, tablets, smart TV's, computers), and even where you’re sitting in your home. Here’s what you can expect–and a few simple tips to get the most out of your connection.
What to expect with Ting Gigabit speeds
Ting Gigabit internet is incredibly fast, but the speed you experience depends on how you connect. A wired connection using an Ethernet cable will always be the fastest. Wi-Fi is still plenty fast, but your speed can vary depending on signal strength, distance from the router (your home box), and even walls or other electronics in your home.
Speeds by connection type
Here’s a general idea of what you can expect:
- Best speeds (wired) – Plugging your computer directly into the router with a modern Ethernet cable gets you closest to full gigabit speeds (800–940 Mbps).
- Great speeds (Wi-Fi 6 or 6E) – With an eero (your home box) and newer devices, Wi-Fi can reach 150–600 Mbps depending on distance from the eero.
- Good speeds (Wi-Fi 5) – Many current devices still use Wi-Fi 5, which usually delivers 100–400 Mbps.
- Older Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi 4 or earlier) – Older devices may see much slower speeds, anywhere from 20–90 Mbps.
Even the “slower” numbers are more than enough for everyday browsing, streaming shows, video calls, and more.
Tips for better Wi-Fi performance
The farther away you are, the weaker the signal.
A quick power cycle (turn it off, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on) can refresh the connection and improve performance.
For things like desktop computers or smart TVs, a wired connection gives you the fastest and most stable speeds.
How to test your speed
- To check your internet speed, go to ting.speedtestcustom.com on your phone, tablet or computer.
- Click Go. The speed test will automatically run.
- View your speed test results when the test is complete.
For the most accurate results:
- Run the test when no other devices are using the internet.
- If possible, test with a device plugged directly into the router.
