Frequently asked questions
- How soon can I get Ting installed?
If your home hasn’t had Ting service before, installation can take at least 10 days (but may take slightly longer, depending on your location). If you have a specific date you know you want your service up and running, you can schedule your installation up to 21 days in advance
- What happens after I place my order?
There are two parts to the installation process once you have placed an order. Both are free if you start or continue a subscription for Ting Internet service.
On the outside of your home: We will connect a box to the closest connection point in the neighborhood network. (This is sometimes referred to as the drop – as in we’re dropping a line outside your home to be ready for a professional installer.)
On installation day: The inside installation brings the fiber optic from that outside box to the inside of your home. There, it’s run into a device that translates light over fiber optic into a signal your devices can use. (You may hear it called an ONT, but it’s basically just an internet jack that takes an ethernet cable.)
You need both to get an internet connection. (There are rare instances when the installation happens before the connection to the network outside. You’ll only have service when both parts are completed.)
If your home is already connected to Ting’s network (i.e. a previous resident had Ting at your address), installation is typically much faster since the outside work to bring fiber from the street to your home has already been done and you likely still have Ting equipment inside your home.
We’ll give you a call after you place your order if we’re able to activate your service over the phone without a technician coming out for a full install. Your technician will also help you decide how many eero devices you need if you’re renting them from Ting, or you’re welcome to use your own compatible router.
You enter your credit or debit card for automatic monthly payment when you order service, but you won’t be charged until your service is installed and activated. We don’t make you pay for service you don’t get.
- I’m an existing Ting customer. How do I transfer my service to a new address?
The first thing you’ll want to do is visit ting.com and enter your new address to make sure your home is in Ting’s serviceable area.
If your new address is serviceable, place your order, and schedule your installation for the date that works best for you. If your address is in a location that is not yet serviceable, join our waitlist to be informed when you can be connected.
If your new home has previously had Ting service as well, we’ll reach out to you after you place your order to streamline the process and help you get activated without an installation appointment. To make sure service is cancelled at your current address, give us a call at 1-844-846-4994.
- I’m moving into a home that has previously had Ting service. What do I need to do, and how long will it take?
Good news, you’re already most of the way there. Since the fiber is already installed at your new home, you just need to set up your own Ting account and schedule your activation.
If the home you are moving into has had Ting before, activation can often happen the same day you move in, as long the inside equipment (ONT) is still in working order and you request service in advance.
- I’m moving out of my Ting home. How do I let the next resident know Ting is already available there?
If you’re selling your home, many real estate listings include that they can get Ting Fiber because access to fiber internet service tends to increase the appeal of a home. You don’t need to do anything special except leave the Ting equipment (The outside box and the inside equipment) for the next resident to plug their Wi-Fi router into. If a new resident enters their address on Ting.com, they’ll see that Ting is already installed and can activate service quickly. They can decide if they want to rent eero devices from Ting or bring their own router. (If you rent eero devices from Ting, you should return those after your service is canceled.)
- Does Ting offer service to apartments and condos?
There are a number of buildings and communities (including HOAs) that offer Ting Internet. In fact, there are many that include Ting service as an amenity.
If your building or community already has Ting installed, it’s as simple as activating service and connecting a router.
If Ting is included, you should receive instructions for activation. If it’s simply available, just enter your address at Ting.com, order service and we’ll get you set up.
- Should I cancel my Ting service before I move?
You can schedule your disconnection in advance so your service stays active right up to and including your move-out day. Contact our Customer Support team and they’ll help you set a disconnection date that works for your move.
